The Women of Sherlock

Hey all! As of recently, I've finished BBC's Sherlock. And wow. Just wow. What an amazing show, with a great cast of characters and incredible acting and twists that will blow your mind. From here on out, I must issue a huge spoiler warning for the content ahead.
IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
You don't want to be spoiled, I assure you.
  Now, on with the post!

I want to take some time and honor the three finest women of the Sherlock; Molly, Mary, and Mrs. Hudson. I usually don't like a whole lot of women in fiction, as some really fall flat as characters. But these three are so diverse and wonderful I can't help but love them. I also noticed how none of them are exceptionally "beautiful", like Irene Adler. They're average looking, but they show that looks aren't everything.

                                                     Mrs. Hudson

Who ever said old ladies can't be awesome? Well, a few people I guess, but none so great as Mrs. Hudson. She's the landlady at 221B Baker Street, not a housekeeper. She says this more than once to our favorites, Sherlock and John, but her actions are more motherly than anything. She puts up with Sherlock's shennagins day in and day out, and makes sure the boys are taken care of in the most basic sense; eating properly, making sure they're mentally OK, etc. I'm convinced that, without her, the flat would have been burned down long ago and John and Sherlock would not be in their current position.
But there's another side to Mrs. Hudson, one that's shown perfectly in The Lying Detective. This is the side the married a cartel man. She drives a fancy red car with no regard for road laws, points a gun at Sherlock Holmes without fear, handcuffs him, and throws him into the trunk of said car. Long story short, get on her good side, she'll give you tea and a place to live. Get on her bad side, you'll probably wake up in a different country on the side of the road.

                                                      Mary Watson

Ah, perhaps the most controversial character in the entire fandom. A lot of people hate her, but I personally don't see any reason to. She doesn't come along until season 3, but that's good enough for me. John says she's the best thing to ever happen to him, and I agree. She probably met him not long after Sherlock's supposed death, so he definitely wasn't in the best place mentally. Yet she loved him anyway, and probably dragged him out of his despondency.
Not only that, but Sherlock approves of her and they get along great. Instead of being pushed to the side, she's able to keep up with them and brings them together; the episode The Sign of Three was evidence enough of that. Was I the only one to have an utter freak out when we found out she was pregnant?
She's incredibly smart (after all, she is an ex- assassin), able to get pretty much her way without coming off as superior or bossy. Mary's past has become the controversy point for many. I myself was incredibly shocked, but to me, she's doing her best to leave it behind while simltaneously protecting her family, all while Sherlock Holmes is watching you constantly. Let's not also forget that she gave her life for Sherlock's, even when she had a family. She doesn't let good people get hurt, end of story.

                                                       Molly Hooper

Where do I even begin with Molly? For being such a crucial and three dimensional character in the show, she doesn't get enough screen time. Personally, I could do a whole post on shipping her and Sherlock, but I'll have to save that for another time.
For one, she works around dead people. That's not unusual, but she makes jokes and puns about it. Her sense of humor is very morbid, and she doesn't care if others find it funny or not (another reason she and Sherlock are compatible, but anyway.).
She's not afraid to call Sherlock out on his crap. Most tend to avoid him, but not her. She's straightforward with him, even about her feelings, and not afraid to drive home her point with a well- deserved slap. In other words, she puts him in his place, like telling him to quit texting during Rosie's baptizing.
For another, she dated James Moriarty. And then dumped him. The world's most dangerous criminal, and she up and dumped him. Just like that. You go, girl.
She's also far more observant than everyone gives her credit for. She can read Sherlock like a book, which not even John is capable of 100% of the time. At a crowded wedding, she notices one person slipping away quietly. When Sherlock asks her to help him with his cases, she matches him, sometimes even word for word.
Also, did I mention she can fake a death?

There's the three 'M's'!. Feel free to leave comments! ~ TQ
