Recent Reads Three

Hi there, popping in with another book review!

Catwoman: Soulstealer

by Sarah J. Mass

This is the third book in the DC Icons series.
It's Selina Kyle's story, aka Catwoman. With Batman away from Gotham City, it seems ripe for the taking. But there's more to this cat than meets the eye, especially when she gets the attention of Batwing, aka Luke Fox, in the process. As havoc is unleashed and the mystery unfolds, they both have to watch their step as the darkness closes in.

This one was definitely a mixed bag. On one hand, it was chock full of other characters besides Catwoman, which made more than excellent appearances throughout the book. However, it also had a lot more language than I would like, and it was told partially from a villain's point of view. This I also had mixed feelings on; in my opinion, nothing justifies evil actions, even if it is for a loved one. It spent too much time trying to justify Selina's actions. I will say, however, that she made the right decision in the end.
It was told from two POVs, so Batwing's helped level it out some, but not by much.

Sarah J. Mass is known for her Throne of Glass series, which has quickly become popular. I haven't read the first book yet, so that review might be coming soon.
Overall, while the writing style was amazing and didn't fail to deliver on the superhero spectrum, there were a lot of elements that ruined it for me. I would recommend Warbringer and Nightwalker, the other two books, but not this one. I give it 5/10.
Thank you all for reading! ~ TQ (Thunderbird Queen).
