Sensational Soundtracks: July

Image
Wow, this is really coming late. I know I've been really unfaithful to this blog, but I've just been really unmotivated as of late. So this is going to be the only post I do this month. Lion King (1994) by Hans Zimmer, with sings by Tim Rice and Elton John    If you don't know the Lion King, you've probably been living under a rock for the past twenty years. I wasn't around for its initial release, but its one of Disney's most popular films, and for very good reason. And I would argue that Zimmer's score is one of the reasons why. Between the famed opening sequence and the King of Pride Rock segment, its enough to give chills all on its own.     The African chants and instruments provide the perfect touch. I mean, just listen to This Land while the animation showcases gorgeous African planes while rain sweeps over it. The main theme is heard in both above pieces, which is chilling. And let's not forget the tragically epic piece that is ...

Sensational Soundtracks: June

Are we halfway through the year already?! How is this even possible? I thought February wasn't far behind us then BAM! It's June. Well, I guess it also marks us half way through this Sensational Soundtrack journey. Have you been enjoying it so far? I know I have! It really gives me an opportunity to stretch out and listen to more music, which is always a good thing. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) by Bear McCreary     I know, I know. This movie literally just cam out, but hey, that wasn't part of the rules, was it? I saw this recently (obviously) with my siblings, and it was really enjoyable, if you enjoy massive monsters, gorgeous CGI, and destruction on a global scale. But I'm not here to give an opinion on the movie, but to praise its soundtrack.    This movie packs in so much action and fight scenes, and the music matches perfectly. Ever have those days where you feel like fighting the world? Well, this music will definitely set you on the warp

The Women of Sherlock

Image
Hey all! As of recently, I've finished BBC's Sherlock. And wow. Just wow. What an amazing show, with a great cast of characters and incredible acting and twists that will blow your mind. From here on out, I must issue a huge spoiler warning for the content ahead.   IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.   You don't want to be spoiled, I assure you.   Now, on with the post!   I want to take some time and honor the three finest women of the Sherlock; Molly, Mary, and Mrs. Hudson. I usually don't like a whole lot of women in fiction, as some really fall flat as characters. But these three are so diverse and wonderful I can't help but love them. I also noticed how none of them are exceptionally "beautiful", like Irene Adler. They're average looking, but they show that looks aren't everything.                                                      Mrs. Hudson   Who ever said old ladies can't be awesome? Well, a few people

Sensational Soundtracks: May

Here's May's soundtrack! Enjoy! Astro Boy (2009) by John Ottman and Jeffery Schindler   I know this one is completely out of left field for probably 90% of you reading this, maybe more. Most of what I've done so far has been fairly widely known, so this one is a little off track. Even though this movie is now ten years old (I saw it when it came out), I still thoroughly enjoy this movie. When I simply want a nice, comforting movie to watch, this is what I pick.    But the story also has an amazing soundtrack to go with it. It somehow manages to be both very fun and extremely serious, much like the movie. The Opening Theme never fails to give me goosebumps. Choir is a huge part of this soundtrack, which I'm a sucker for when it's used correctly. There is also a lot of wind instruments and bass to accent the futuristic world it's set in.    To be completely honest, I do not know who John Ottman or Jeffery Schindler are. I haven't some across th

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Tag

This post comes to pay homage to the best decade of movies to grace our generation: The MCU!. This comes all the way from the ever lovely Christine , go check her out! The MCU began way back in 2008, and now will (somewhat, it would seem) wrap up here in good ol' 2019. I'm seeing Endgame soon and I'm not ready. I'm just not. I don't think anybody is. But on with the post! The Rules ('cause we all need a few) 1. Feel free to include the above graphic somewhere in your post (though not required). 2. Take the questions and answer them on either your blog our social media of your choice. 3. Tag up to five other Marvel fans (I'll try!) 1. How were you introduced into the MCU fandom?    Much like Christine's answer, I grew up on the early Tobey Macguire Spider- Man film. It was one of my favorite movies when I was little. But that was really my only superhero movie. Fast forward to the early MCU films. I was late getting in, but

Sensational Soundtracks: April

This is coming in a little late in the month, but I've finally got it up and going. So enjoy this month's soundtrack pick! Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer   Adventure and romance on the high seas await in these thrilling music pieces. Based off the Disneyland ride of the same name, Pirates of the Caribbean has since become a five- movie franchise, with its theme song, He's a Pirate becoming its signature flagship (see what I did there?) for each film. The reason I chose the first installment is, well, it's the first and probably the best. Anyway, you can't tell me the theme doesn't make you feel invincible.    Each piece in Curse of the Black Pearl is it's own scene, able to tell a complete story without using words. It creates the mood for the pining between Will and Elizabeth, and the most epic entrance of all time for our favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow. It creates dreadful und

Ever Been to a Jazz Concert?

Image
Have you ever been to a jazz concert?   I hadn't either, until a few weeks ago. I live in a relatively small town, where the biggest entertainment is the county fair and the local  movie theater. Also, being an introvert, I typically spend my weekend nights indoors, catching up on a show or watching a movie, with my siblings for company.    However, once a month, I get out and take a swing dancing class. It's one of my favorite things in the world to do. This is my fourth year taking classes, and I'm still very in love with it. It's so much fun, and comes from the throwback era of the forties. I get to hang out with friends and simply have a good time.    Anyway, I take my classes in the next town over, where there is a junior college. There is a man named Rod Harris who teaches music there, and leads the jazz band. As you've probably guessed, swing and jazz go hand in hand. So, knowing a few of my classmates from dance, he invited our group to go and d
